Multiple Murders on Mean Streets of Newtown Since 2011 Appear to be Robberies Gone Bad or Drug Related All Of them are a Blight on Sarasota Fl. I have been a licensed private investigator in Sarasota Fl for over 22 years, I am well aware as to what goes on in Newtown. My article is published in the attempt to make the general public aware of the danger and violence that spews out of Newtown. In 2010 Newtown accounted for 43 per cent of Sarasota’s armed robberies and 83 per cent of its murders. There were 800 plus crimes in the Newtown Section of Sarasota Fl between October 9th, 2014 and April 7th, 2015 and it keeps getting worse in no go Newtown.
The map above, with a few words attached, shows all the locations of outdoor security cameras maintained by the Sarasota Police Department. Each camera is represented by a red flag. Thirty-five of the 43 cameras are in Newtown. Security Cameras Focus on Newtown Because That’s Where the Majority of Sarasota Crimes Originate. There were 800 plus crimes in the Newtown Section of Sarasota Fl between October 9th, 2014 and April 7th, 2015.
From the cold blooded murders of British tourists James Cooper and James Kouzaris by Newtown teen thug Shawn Tyson in 2011 to the recent murder of Travis Combs and the accompanying disappearance of teen Jabez Span who appears to be a witness to Combs murder, Newtown is a no go kinda place. There were eight murders in Sarasota in 2011, all but one of which took place in Newtown, the historically black neighborhood that has remained dangerous despite years of effort and calls for a stop to the violence.
Let’s get real here, my articles are in NO WAY disparaging of missing teen Jabez Spann who as by all accounts is the all-American kid, football player, good student, on the straight and narrow and not deserving of what apparently has happened to him. My articles on Missing Jabez Spann are also in NO WAY disparaging of the Sarasota Police Department. My articles are published in the attempt to produce any leads that I could pass onto the Sarasota Police Department (SPD).
Travis Combs was murdered near 22nd Street and Palmadelia Avenue, shot in the back, on August 28th 2017 at about 9:20 p.m. Travis L. Combs DOB 9/23/1985, black male, his murder most likely drug related as in May 2014 Travis Combs was arrested in front of 2222 MLK Dr Newtown with 1.6 lbs of marijuana in the trunk of his car, he may have lived in Arcadia but spent a lot of time in the Newtown area. Travis Combs had a passenger in his car when arrested in May 2014, a black male, age 36 with a violent history with robbery and drug arrests. Apparently missing teen Jabez Spann witnessed the murder of Travis Combs.
NO SNITCHIN IN NEWTOWN. Herald Tribune, The police report that put Spann at the scene of Combs’ murder stems from the arrest of Reginald Lee Parker. Parker, 55, told three people that he witnessed the fatal shooting of Combs by 3 Newtown thugs, who he knew and named two of them. His firsthand account was corroborated by another witness, a woman who also heard the gunshot and saw men running from the area. Parker was arrested Nov. 7 on an unrelated warrant for failure to appear in court and interviewed by detectives in jail. But according to the report, he changed his account once inside the county jail. When pressed by detectives, Parker denied telling anyone he saw Combs’ death. After he recanted, detectives brought the three people Parker spoke to about the killing into the jail, to confront him in person about his statements. Parker, again, denied witnessing the death. He has been charged with being an accessory to murder for allegedly impeding the investigation of the armed robbery and killing. Parker’s arrest report is the first of any official documents that indicate Spann witnessed the still unsolved death. The names of the 2 thugs that Parker ID in the shooting of Combs are in the SPD probable cause report.

Friday, August 19, 2011 SARASOTA HERALD TRIBUNE – Sarasota Police are seeking the public’s help as they try to solve the shooting death of another young man on the streets of Newtown. Detectives identified the victim, who was shot dead at 29th Street and Goodrich Avenue late Wednesday, as Timothy Rainey, 18, a lifetime resident of Sarasota. The dead man,Timothy Rainey, 18, has had past brushes with the law himself (drug charges) He was arrested at least twice in Sarasota County, according to jail records, for possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of cocaine and three probation violations. Court records do not show any prosecutions in adult court, however, and Rainey’s last arrest appears to have been in January for violation of probation. The disposition of those criminal cases was not immediately available. So far, five homicides have occurred this year in Newtown, young people frequently roam the streets of Newtown late at night, police and residents say. The neighborhood where Rainey was shot is not far from where, on April 16 at about 3 a.m., two British tourists – James Cooper, 25, and James Kouzaris, 24 – were shot in the 1700 block of Carver Court.
EXPRESS UK Saturday April 23rd, 2011, In Newtown there is a no snitching rule, Bill Warner Sarasota private investigator. Sarasota, it’s an easy-going place where visitors and locals mingle in the cluster of bars and restaurants after lazy days spent basking on the city’s 35 miles of white Gulf Coast beaches. Above all it’s a safe district where the most police have to deal with is the occasional outbreak of rowdiness, fueled by a few too many beers combined with the region’s legendary all-year-round sunshine. Head directly north through Sarasota’s grid-patterned streets, however, and the atmosphere changes for the worse. After a mile and- a-half you’ll reach Newtown. It’s a neighborhood that is never mentioned in the glossy tourist brochures that lure 41,000 Britons to Sarasota every year. By day the atmosphere is unwelcoming, at night it’s downright dangerous and considered a no-go area for outsiders. In 2010 Newtown accounted for 43 per cent of Sarasota’s armed robberies and 83 per cent of its murders. In these streets university pals Mr Cooper, 25, and Mr Kouzaris, 24, were gunned down after straying into the crime ridden public housing project. Apparently victims of a robbery, they died in a hail of bullets as they fled for their lives in the early hours of Saturday. Shawn Tyson, a dysfunctional teenager who reportedly has the street nickname Young Savage tattooed across his chest, has been convicted with the killing of the two Britons. Liz Clare, who dated James Kouzaris for three years, says: “I just can’t understand why they were there. They’re not stupid. I was with James for three years and he was so cautious. We used to call him grandad because he was so careful. My biggest fear is what people might think about why they were in a dodgy area. The latest explanation is that, under the influence of drink, they simply wandered away from the safety of Main Street in search of a late night takeaway and became lost. Stumbling into the Courts, a public housing project, they became prey for an opportunist robber. Yet, as the former girlfriend states, Cooper and Kouzaris were not naive young men. Both had traveled extensively and were sufficiently street-wise to sense they were entering a dangerous area. Newtown is a district that one man in Sarasota knows better than most. Bill Warner is a veteran private investigator who has called this area his patch for almost 20 years. “It’s horrible,” he says. “At any time of day there are drug deals being done and guys acting as spotters on the look out for police. There is a lot of crime and it’s not a nice place to be. You don’t go there at night, period. If I have to do surveillance work in Newtown I always carry a weapon.”
Details about the evidence and about the person (A Second Suspect or Shooter) — described as “still at large” — remain secret. Prosecutors said the person was involved or present at the time of the murders. Who is the unsub 2nd shooter who was with Shawn Tyson when British tourists James Cooper and James Kouzaris were murdered in the Newtown Housing projects section of Sarasota Fl on April 16th, 2011 at 2:54 a.m.. SARASOTA HERALD TRIBUNE….British tourist murders: Two men at scene; one conviction. Police only solved half of the case with the conviction this week of 17-year-old Shawn Tyson in the murders of two British tourists. All along, witnesses said there were two men who surprised the two drunken Britons about 3 a.m. on April 16, when they were shot and killed as they staggered through a public housing complex. Court records from the Tyson case name Steven Fields, 19, as possibly being the accomplice. Fields has family in Newtown and has spent most of his teen years behind bars. He was convicted of robbery and aggravated assault when he was 14. When tourists James Cooper and James Kouzaris were murdered, Fields was living with his mother in Tampa. Fields was serving 18 months in prison for a probation violation charge unrelated to the murders, Fields is scheduled to be released January 18, 2018. “We’re looking at him and if we can develop probable cause to charge him, we’ll do so,” said Sarasota Police Sgt. Kevin Churchill. “Now that this conviction is done, perhaps people will be more inclined to help us and provide some information.” MORE FROM THIS SOURCE
