BOSASO, Puntland Somalia April 26th 2017- Security forces of Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland have arrested suspected Al-shabaab terrorists carrying explosives in the city of Bosaso, the commercial hub of the region on Tuesday night, Garowe Online reports. The security forces conducted a special operation in the city and apprehended five suspects believed to be linked to the terrorist group al-Shabaab, attempting to carry out terrorist attacks in Bosaso, right next door to Somaliland. President Trump is right banning flights from Somalia whose 3rd largest airport is located in Bosaso near Somaliland where Al-Shabbab has infiltrated. Bosaso Airport in Bosaso Somalia has connecting flights to Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport. Asked about the targeted areas which the Al-Shabaab suspects aimed to attack, the official said there are no clear information on the matter but noted the group is known to target officials, government buildings, public places, suicide bombings and possibly hijacking aircraft.
APRIL 8th, 2017…Five al-Shabab militants convicted of murdering senior officials in the north eastern Somalia town of Bosaso have been executed by firing squad. The men were sentenced to death in February by a military court in Bosaso port town, the commercial hub of Puntland, Somali federal member state. The court said the men were involved in identifying possible targets, and carrying out assassinations against officials. Abdifitah Haji Adam, Chairperson of Puntland military court, told VOA Somali Service that the court found the suspects guilty and gave them the death penalty two months ago. “The men were al-Shabaab members. They were behind assassinations that happened here in Bososo, including the killing of the director of Puntland State presidency and the General Attorney of the army. They included murderers and accomplices. The court found them guilty and sentenced them to death in February, and today the sentences have been carried out,” said Adam.
4 Hurlburt Field airmen die in crash in Somaliland Africa. The U-28A aircraft the airmen were aboard crashed Saturday, 2/18/2012, near Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, in Somaliland. The men were returning from a mission in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, according to a Hurlburt Field Florida news release and were 12 miles out when the plane went down…there is no known cause for the plane crash. The crash does not appear to be the result of hostile fire, Staff Sgt. Ryan Whitney of the 1st Special Operations Wing said Monday. “But that won’t be completely determined until there is a thorough investigation.” Whitney said there is no way to know at this point how long an investigation will take.
The U-28A Recon Spy Plane has a maximum cruise speed of 270 knots or 310 miles per hour (MPH) and a maximum ceiling of 30,000 feet. The U-28A Recon Spy Plane can land on dirt or grass strips, it is not a high speed plane nor does it need paved runways. After the 2001 terror attacks, the U.S. began to expand anti-terrorism efforts in the region. As a result, it established the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa. Today, Camp Lemonnier is home to CJTF-HOA and 23 tenant commands.
