Fort Lauderdale ISIS Shooter Esteban Santiago First Planned to Go to New York City and Times Square for New Years Eve But Changed Plan. The first shot fired by ISIS killer Esteban Santiago at Fort Lauderdale airport with 9mm Walther pistol, he had no luggage, no carry on, he only checked his firearm in a hard plastic case, and a one way ticket from Alaska, 5,000 miles, gee no red flags here, eh? “ISIS told me to do it”. The FBI and Jesse Davis, the police chief of the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, confirmed that Esteban Santiago followed TSA procedures in checking his weapon.
The Gun: It was the only item he brought with him to Fort Lauderdale. “The suspect had only checked one item, a handgun case and no luggage,” said Davis. Just before 1 p.m. on Friday, the FBI says Santiago retrieved his checked baggage at the Fort Lauderdale airport after flying from Alaska with a connection in Minneapolis. He then went into a bathroom and loaded his gun inside a bathroom stall. George Piro, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Miami division, said he appeared to follow the correct protocol established by the Transportation Security Administration to travel with his gun. Surveillance video shows Santiago calmly walking through the baggage claim area, pulling the handgun out of his waistband and opening fire on nearby passengers. The FBI says he then emptied one clip, reloaded, kept firing, walked outside the terminal for a moment and re-entered the baggage claim area before dropping the gun and lying down spread eagle.
It’s Terrorism: The former soldier who unleashed death with a shooting rampage inside a Florida airport baggage claim area flew to Fort Lauderdale fully intending to spread carnage among innocent people, the feds said. Esteban Santiago, 26, “came here specifically to carry out this horrific attack,” said Special Agent George Piro of the Miami Federal Bureau of Investigation. There is no indication that Santiago’s murderous run through the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was set off by any kind of altercation with anyone else, Piro added.
