My January 2016 Meeting with Joe Gruters in Sarasota Gave Me a Window on Things to Come With Donald Trump Now the GOP Nominee For President of the USA
Thursday, May 26, 2016
Today, Donald Trump secured 1,238 delegates just enough to make him the GOP Nominee for President of the United States. Back on Wednesday January 6th, 2016 Sarasota County GOP Chairman Joe Gruters contacted me through my Facebook page and asked to meet him for lunch at the Main Bar Sandwich Shop on Main St Sarasota Fl to discuss my interest in joining the Trump campaign. After a quick lunch we walked from the Main Bar to Trump Headquarters at 1517 State St, during the walk I found it interesting and now ironic that Joe told me he had taken some heat from other GOP members about heading up Trump’s Florida Campaign and even the local newspaper had written unfavorable articles about Joe teaming up with Trump, but that he believed in Trump and if Trump won the GOP Nomination and Presidential Campaign in November, Joe could be heading to Washington D.C., what say you now Sarasota Herald Tribune, LOL.
The AP reports that Trump was has reached 1,238 delegates, put over the 1,237 needed to win the nomination by a small number of the party’s unbound delegates who said they would support him at the convention. Trump will most likely add more delegates to his total before the convention in Cleveland, giving him a comfortable victory. With a triumphant pile of delegates in hand, Republican Donald Trump on Thursday claimed support from “almost everybody” in his party and turned his attention to his likely Democratic presidential opponent, Hillary Clinton, who is still locked in a divisive primary contest. The New York billionaire reached the number of delegates needed to clinch the GOP nomination hours earlier, according to the Associated Press count, just before a North Dakota campaign stop. It completed his unlikely rise that has upended the political landscape and set the stage for a bitter fall campaign. “Here I am watching Hillary fight, and she can’t close the deal,” he told reporters. “We’ve had tremendous support from almost everybody.”
Back on October 23rd 2015 Zac Anderson at the Sarasota Herald Tribune Reported: Joe Gruters to lead Trump campaign in Florida, which will have office in Sarasota. Trump is a polarizing figure, who has turned off many with his repeated insults and heated rhetoric on immigration and other issues. Gruters could be risking his future in elected office by taking such a prominent role with a controversial campaign. He is currently running for the state House and could be a candidate for Congress or other offices in the future. “I’m proud to stand next to Trump,” Gruters said when asked about the negative perception of the candidate that many have. “He’s somebody special who tells it how it is and I think he’s going to be able to unite the country and make American great again.”
