Sarasota Herald Tribune Editorial: Kill ‘Common law’ Jury Idea of Lunatic Fringe Sovereign Citizens at Tonight’s County Charter Review Board Meeting.
Wednesday, January 20, 2016
UPDATE: Wednesday January 20th, 2016 at 7:37 pm…Sarasota County Charter Review Board Members SMACK DOWN the silly Common Law Grand Jury proposal by National Alliance (We The People) aka Sovereign Citizens in Venice Fl. Sarasota County Charter Review Board Members voted to not hear any more silly Common Law Grand Jury proposals tonight, they already voted NO at two prior meetings in 2015 on proposals and they also voted to NOT hear any further silly Common Law Grand Jury proposals in the future, CASE CLOSED.
The National Alliance (We The People) aka Sovereign Citizens brought in trouble maker Michael Zarzano from Columbus Ohio who has been barred form Ohio Liberty Council meetings and homeless guy Charles Giltner, DOB 3/20/1964, who was arrested just a few days ago on Venice Beach Fl on Felony drug charges to speak, great combo. COLUMBUS OHIO: “The public interest will be served by granting a preliminary injunction against Defendant (Michael Zarzano) because it will promote the First Amendment rights of those who wish to associate freely and anonymously with the Ohio Liberty Council. People should be free to associate with those of their choosing at non-public forums, meetings and events without fear of insult, injury or harassment. Based on all of the foregoing, the Magistrate find Plaintiff’s Motion for a Preliminary Injunction to meritorious and well-founded.” Mr. Zarzano is now prohibited from being at, or in the vicinity of, any “Ohio Liberty Council” meetings going forward.
It was very courageous of Cynthia Crowe (who looks like a kindly grand-mother) to be the only speaker who opposed the notion of a common law grand jury in front of the hostile crowd at the Sarasota County Charter Review Board meeting last night. Cynthia Crowe was the Former Executive Director at Republican Party of Florida. “Do we need more of this nonsense?” Cynthia Crowe asked. “If we are unhappy with any of you elected officials, I believe we go to the polls and throw the bums out. And only a judge can issue a warrant.” The “We The People” mooks jeered Crowe. I was the only one who applauded her efforts, (loudly) and told her “way to go” as she passed me. Two Sarasota Sheriff Department Deputies were there last night waiting in the outer hall, there were also Sarasota Sheriff Deputies outside in the parking lot, these goofball National Alliance (We The People) aka Sovereign Citizens mooks would not go up against them.
Looks like the National Alliance (We The People) aka Sovereign Citizens stole their tag line slogan “We The People”, with some modification, from Robert De Niro’s movie “Taxi Driver”, Senator Charles Palantine, When we came up with our slogan, ‘We are the People,’ when I said let the people rule.
Get Real Sarasota, in simple terms, the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI considers Sovereign Citizens extremists and their common law grand jury to be domestic terrorists, so why would 2 Sarasota County Charter Review Board Members vote twice on forming a special committee to study the proposal for the “people’s common law grand jury” concept that is being pushed by the extreme right wing National Liberty Alliance nationwide? Sarasota County Charter Review Board members Pat Wayman and Steven R. Fields continue to vote yes for the fantasy of a “grand jury” scheme.
Back on September 30th, 2015 I was on ABC 7 Sarasota with Alan Cohn’s News at 7:00 pm discussing, with Charter Review Board member Pat Wayman, the Sovereign Citizen groups attempt to infiltrate local politics with their bizarre ‘Citizens Grand Jury’. Pat Wayman at the time claimed no knowledge of any link between the violent Sovereign Citizen Group and the Citizens Grand Jury, it has been learned that she is now pushing the idea for the Citizens Grand Jury, Two members of Sarasota County’s Charter Review Board Pat Wayman and Steven R. Fields have not given up on the so-called Sovereign Citizen “people’s common law grand jury.”
SARASOTA HERALD TRIBUNE EDITORIAL January 20th, 2016….Zombies play prominent roles in popular culture, but they have no place in local government — not even in obscure forums such as the Sarasota County Charter Review Board. Yet the unique board is scheduled to “consider a presentation” by two people, only one of whom lives in the county, who espouse a “People’s Common Law Grand Jury” or something similar. According to proponents of this concept, secret and presumably self-selected “grand juries” would “expose all fraud and corruption in government and issue indictments against officials.” As we have written previously, there is no statutory or constitutional authorization of such groups. None. Despite any grounding in laws or constitutions, this would be the third time in less than a year for the Charter Review Board to hear such nonsense TONIGHT.
ROBERT L. ANDERSON ADMINISTRATION CENTER 6:00 p.m. 4000 SOUTH TAMIAMI TRAIL, COMMISSION CHAMBER, VENICE, FLORIDA. 1/20/2016 Tonight’s County Charter Review Board Meeting….NEW BUSINESS To consider a presentation by Kathy Bolam for a proposed amendment to the Sarasota County Charter regarding a People’s Common Law Grand Jury.
It’s as if Charter Review Board meetings have become the stage for a political version of the “Living Dead” movie series: The script is all fantasy but no one has killed the idea once and for all. We were alarmed to learn last year that, in May, four of the board’s nine members voted to send a “common law grand jury” idea to committee for consideration. In October, a motion to send another idea to committee failed 5-2. The board meets Wednesday night and two “presentations” related to the “jury” concept are on the agenda under “new business.” In addition to the ridiculous nature of the idea, there are two problems with the agenda items: This is a rehash, not “new business,” and it appears to conflict with the board’s by-laws. The task before responsible board members is to avoid the zombie drama and kill the fantasy of a “grand jury” scheme.
VIDEO ABC-7 SOVEREIGN CITIZENS IN SARASOTA-BRADENTON FL. ABC-7 SARASOTA FL: Sovereign Citizens number in the “hundreds” on the Suncoast. “Anyone who thinks the Suncoast is immune to the actions of sovereign citizens is being naive.” Those are the words of Bill Warner, a Sarasota private detective whose been aware of the Sovereign Citizen movement for years. “It’s people with a mindset that the government is against its own citizens,” Bill Warner explained. Bill Warner is sad (mad) the movement has spilled over into violence twice in the past week, both with a courthouse incident last Friday in Atlanta where Dennis Marx shot a deputy before being shot and killed himself. And then the Sunday shooting of two officers and a Walmart shopper in Las Vegas. He says make no mistake, this is domestic terrorism. “Absolutely, it’s organized through the internet, and Facebook, and that’s how they get bigger an bigger, Bill Warner said.

John Darash aka John Vidurek, 63, Hyde Park NY north of Poughkeepsie. John Darash created a buzz early on because he appeared to be someone with almost no background….no axe to grind. It turns out he is just like Bill Windsor and all his other sovereign citizen buddies (don’t call us sovereign citizens we are citizens who are sovereign) in that he engages in his favorite from of anti-american terrorism: paper terrorism. John Darash aka John Vidurek and his wife Kimberly, didn’t pay their taxes and when the IRS tried to levy against them they sued the IRS and involved IRS agents as party of a conspiracy. You see, they don’t have to pay taxes because the IRS isn’t real. Me the People have declared that null and void.
The Southern Poverty Law Center estimates the Sovereign Citizens movement is up to 300,000 people, and Bill Warner says that should break down to several hundred along the Suncoast. “I’m sure it grew even more so after the Sarasota Police Detective was fired,” he said. Bill Warner is referring to a former homicide detective Tom Laughlin who lost his job in 2010 after declaring himself a sovereign citizen. “I’m sure more people will use that as a reason to join this moment because he was fired because of his views of being a sovereign citizen, who that really stokes it up,” Bill Warner said.
Oregon Malheur National Wildlife Refuge Building taken over by armed sovereign citizen protesters known for killing copsArmed sovereign citizens have invaded and are currently occupying federal property. Three of Cliven Bundy’s sons and approximately 150 other armed militia members (sovereign citizens) — most of them remnants of the 2014 Bundy Ranch standoff in Nevada — have taken over the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge building in Harney County, Oregon, allegedly to provoke a standoff with the federal government. The group is reportedly led by Bundy’s son, Ammon, who is accompanied by brothers Ryan and Mel.
The occupation began after a large group protested on the building’s grounds, demanding the release of Dwight Hammond Jr. and Steven Hammond, two Oregon ranchers convicted of arson charges in 2012. U.S. Justice Department records show that the Hammonds’ crime was setting fire to 139 acres of public land which they were using to poach deer. The Hammonds were re-sentenced to 5 years in prison in October 2015.
According to The Oregonian, Bundy’s group plans to occupy the building for several years and turn it into a safe haven for so-called sovereign citizens whose aim is to live outside the reach of a “tyrannical” federal government. The group is armed and told local press that militia members won’t hesitate to fire upon police and federal officials. Lately, Bundy’s leadership has taken on a religious tone. He claims that he has had a revelation from God that his supporters are to disarm the BLM and National Park Service, and to tear down the toll booth at Lake Mead.
Bundy his family and many of his supporters are part of the modern day Sovereign Movement, a loosely-knit group that subscribes to a complex system of bizarre legal theories. They believe that the current U.S. Government is an illegitimate sham, and, in the most extreme situations, they are willing to resort to violence when the courts and government agents don’t agree with their schemes.
