A photo taken at the Lincoln Hotel Clinton Street in Binghamton NY on Thursday August 8th, 1974 became somewhat historically significant as it captured the look on the faces of the “Gang at the Lincoln Hotel” as President Nixon went on National TV to tell the world that he would resign the next day. President Nixon resigned 41 Years Ago today on August 9th 1974 as The Boys At The Lincoln Hotel in Binghamton NY Watch on TV. Some of the guys and the one gal in the photo above from R to L are Charles Fix (owner), Russ Severence, John Fountaine, Frank Makein, Mike Ocker, Rick Badger, Norm Phillips, Tom Tiffany, Kay Badger and Bob Fitzgerald.
The Lincoln Hotel in Binghamton NY was part of the the notorious “Clinton Street Run” were you would have a 8oz draft beer in everyone of the numerous bars, which in the 1970’s had upward of 30 bars, i.e. starting with the Clinton Hotel, Brass Rail Bar, Elmo’s, Sansevieria Bar, AMP’s, the Russian Club, Lincoln Hotel, Union Hotel, Bears Den etc., along the 1.3 mile stretch of Clinton Street. Nobody ever finished the ‘run’ at Sharky’s around the corner on Glenwood Ave standing up.
