NY DAILY NEWS: Israeli police spokeswoman Luba Samri said that Palestimian Tariq Khdeir had resisted arrest and attacked officers. He was detained with a slingshot in his possession used to hurl stones at police, Samri claimed. Tariq Abu Khdeir, an American citizen of Palestinian descent from Tampa Fl, arrested in east Jerusalem for using a slingshot to hurl stones at Israeli cops. His cousin Mohammed Abu Khdeir was killed by Israeli extremists in a revenge attack just days ago. Riots erupted in east Jerusalem on Friday July 4th, 2014 as thousands of Palestinians massed for Mohammed Abu Khdeir’s burial. Tariq Abu Khdeir was one of several protesters arrested, the Associated Press reported. A spokeswoman for the Israeli police said he was resisting arrest and using a slingshot to hurl stones at officers. Tariq was treated briefly at an Israeli hospital before he was taken to jail, family members in Tampa said.
“The black and white Keffiyah, idolized in the 1960s by Yasser Arafat, has become the symbol of the Palestinian resistance movement, there are also red and white Keffiyeh (Palestinian colors) like what Tariq Abu Khdeir was wearing. The way that symbol is politicized and used to divide people, rather than as common ground for discussion and dialogue is a thought-provoking topic.
Palestinian Islamic Jihad Seeks Bigger Presence in Jerusalem: Samri, the Israeli police spokeswoman, said that Tariq Abu Khdeir an American citizen of Palestinian descent from Tampa Fl had resisted arrest and attacked police officers. He was detained with a slingshot in his possession used to hurl stones at police, along with six other protesters, including some armed with knives, she said, adding that several officers were hurt in that specific protest, one of many that day. The face of the person cannot be seen in either video, and the circumstances leading up to the beating are not shown. The channel that aired it, Palestine Today, is funded by Iranian-backed Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a militant group that has carried out suicide bombings and other attacks aimed at civilians. “We seek to have a bigger presence in Jerusalem,” said Sheikh Nafez Azzam, a member of Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s political bureau who lives in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Firing a rocket into Tel Aviv is the same as firing a hundred rockets into Ashdod and Beer Sheva,” said Abu Ahmed, a spokesman for Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s armed wing, referring to two Israeli cities near Gaza that were peppered with missiles.
