UPDATED: Jan 29th, 2014 ‘SLEEPERS’: 55 Bodies Found at Dozier School for Boys Where Children Were Sodomized or Forced to Perform Oral Sex on Guards Linked to the Klan — Roger Dean Kiser, now 67, of Brunswick, Ga., told The Times in October that he was sent to Dozier at age 12 in 1959 and stayed for two years. He wrote a book about the school, “The White House Boys,’’ named for a house on school grounds where he said boys were beaten. Kiser said he was twice beaten bloody with a leather whip reinforced by a slab of sheet metal. Other boys were beaten so badly that their underwear was pounded into their bare skin. Many were sodomized or forced to perform oral sex on staff members, he said. Boys were beaten for such infractions as spitting, cursing or talking back. Researchers exhuming and studying remains at a notorious Panhandle reform school now say at least 55 bodies were buried there, five more than previous field work indicated, and 24 more than an official state count. Erin Kimmerle, an anthropology professor at the University of South Florida who has been leading a forensic investigation on the grounds of the Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys in Marianna, said the findings open “a whole new set of questions for our team.” All the bodies found were interred in coffins either made at the school or bought from manufacturers, said Kimmerle. Some were found under roads or overgrown trees, well away from the white, metal crosses marking the 31 officially recorded graves.
TROY TIDWELL ‘ONE ARMED MAN’ TORTURED BOYS AT DOZIER SCHOOL.
TAMPA TRIBUNE 12/11/2012….”We’ve always known the day would come when this type of information would come out,” said Bryant E. Middleton, who was sent to Dozier in 1959. “And to me, it’s going to provide some closure, it’s going to provide some emotional relief, and a lot of satisfaction knowing there is a good chance now that state employees who perpetrated these crimes against these children may be held accountable.”
Jerry Cooper, sent to the reform school in 1961, also praised the USF investigation. “We have been on the right purpose here all along, and that’s why we’re not going to stop,” Cooper said. “We want to know what happened to these kids.” Children were originally committed to the school for serious criminal offenses, but state law was later amended to include those convicted of minor incidents such as truancy.
Middleton and Cooper are among the so-called “White House Boys,” a group of men who claim they were lashed unmercifully with a leather strap in a cottage known on the campus as the “White House” in the 1950s and ’60s. Cooper said he barely survived a 135-lash beating in the White House. Inmates also told of rape, isolation, hog-tying and other atrocities. Some said they saw boys led away, never to return. And they remembered a graveyard, eventually grown-over and containing 31 unmarked crosses made of pipe.
PHOTO OF DOZIER SCHOOL FOR BOYS ‘INMATES’ WHO WERE BEATEN, RAPED, AND MURDERED IN MARIANNA FL WHERE 50 MORE GRAVES HAVE BEEN LOCATED.
Let’s get real here all you citizens of Florida, during the 1930′s, 1940′s, 1950′s and the the 1960′s Marianna Fl was the center and a stronghold for Ku Klux Klan activity, lynching of black males along with unspeakable rape, torture and murder of white and black boys at the Dozier School for Boys was the order of the day. Dozier school guards, administration, and the local Marianna Sheriff were all linked to the violent KKK. Just what do you think happened to the black boys at the Dozier School For Boys in the 1950′s and the 1960′s.
It is a matter of fact that young boys, both white and colored, were raped and tortured at the Dozier School for Boys “White House” in Marianna Fl, at least 65 ended up dead. During the time frame of 1932 to 1936 there were reported to be 12 young ’colored boys’ who died of “Pneumonia” at the Dozier School for Boys in Marianna Fl. On October 26th, 1934 the ‘colored man’ Claude Neal was brutally tortured and lynched in Marianna Fl by the KKK and his body was left hanging to a tree in the Marianna Town Square for 24 hours, so what really happened to those ‘colored boys’ at Dozier?
It appears from the FDLE investigation and information obtained from School records that both white and “colored boys” were buried in the same cemetary, this does not ring true in the Deep South from 1919 to 1952, especially in Marianna Fl where an active KKK chapter was in operation up until the mid 1960′s. Get real here, the colored boys at Dozier Shool had a separate dinning hall and dorm from the white boys for over 50 some years, do you really think that they would have been ‘allowed’ to bury white boys and colored boys in the same cemetery while the folks in Marianna were hanging a black man from a tree in the town square, yeah right!
