BINGHAMTON November 20th, 2011 — A 42-year-old Town of Maine man is facing child pornography charges following an eight month investigation by Binghamton police. George F. Wheeler IV, who lived in the city’s South Side during the investigation, was arrested on four counts each of possessing a sexual performance by a child and possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child, felonies, police said Thursday. Wheeler was arraigned and sent to the Broome County jail. The investigation is continuing. If anyone has information on the case, contact the Binghamton Police Department at (607) 772-7080.
CHILD RAPISTS ; 26 Percent Hike In the Number Of registered Sex Offenders in Broome County New York, Binghamton Leads the Pack : BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — In just a year, Broome County has seen a 26 percent hike in the number of registered sex offenders in the county, a statistic many find startling. “It goes to show that it’s a real sick world out there,” said Broome County resident George Wilson Sr.
“It doesn’t make me very safe,” added Edward Moorhead. According to the Broome County Sheriff’s office, there were 426 registered offenders in Broome County in 2009, since then, that number has grown to more than 530 today. “The number can fluctuate any given day, any given month. It has increased right now,” explained Broome County Sheriff’s detective Sgt. Jason Ellis.
