(WBNG TV Binghamton) As the media focuses more on its online viewers and bringing more content and video to websites, media in the print industry are also moving forward to develop websites and find ways to monetize them.

The Press & Sun Bulletin newspaper announced it’s going to charge for complete access to its website http://www.pressconnects.com/. It’s a trend that some newspapers have already established, Including most of the Press’ parent company Gannet and the New York Times.

It’s being referred to as something similar to a broadcast model, leaving newspapers competing more with television station websites online. Customer service staff at the Press & Sun Bulletin says it will cost $12 a month for those who want to subscribe to just the online website http://www.pressconnects.com/.

ALEXA WEBSITE RANKING..Pressconnects.com’s three-month global Alexa traffic rank is 69,327 in the world (among the 30 million domains), a low rank means that this website gets lots of visitors.  Compared with the overall internet population, this site’s audience tends to be aged under 25 and over 45; they are also disproportionately childless women earning between $30,000 and $100,000. The site has a bounce rate of approximately 51% (i.e., 51% of visits consist of only one pageview). http://www.pressconnects.com/ is located in the US.

NOW TO THE EXTREME…Local News Website Says You Need To Pay To Read Its Stories, Says It’s Collecting Visitor IPs To Sue. There’s a local news site known as The North Country Gazette covering parts of upstate New York via a blog format run by “Publisher” June Maxam in Chestertown NY. Rather than putting in place an actual technical paywall, the site has apparently decided to go with a paywall-by-threat model. If you visit a story on the site, it tells you that you’re only allowed to view one page for free, and then they expect you to pay up, see below;

“A subscription is required at North Country Gazette. We allow only one free read per visitor. We are currently gathering IPs and computer info on persistent intruders who refuse to buy subscription and are engaging in a theft of services. We have engaged an attorney who will be doing a bulk subpoena demand on each ISP involved, particularly Verizon Droids, Frontier and Road Runner, and will then pursue individual legal actions”.

Theft of Services? Engaged an attorney to pursue individual legal actions for looking at the website? Oh by the way,  North Country Gazette Publisher June Maxam served nine months in jail in 2003 on a felony conviction for falsely accusing her neighbors, Donald and Eleanor Lambert, of harassment. The conviction was overturned on appeal and dismissed in 2005.

Chester NY parts ways with June Maxam, notorious animal control officer has been fired after 3 months.  CHESTER — June Maxam’s short but controversial tenure as town animal control officer ended Thursday night as the Town Board overrode Supervisor Fred Monroe and sacked her.

Jailed for 9 months and fired as dog catcher and she will sue you if you read her website more than once without paying, June Maxam appears to be the most hated person in Chester NY.
