SARASOTA – Murder defendant Shawn Tyson’s sister was arrested Friday on a felony charge because of a message she posted on her Facebook page addressed to a witness in his case. The message was directed at Nakiera Keno, who testified Thursday that she happened to drive down a street in a public housing complex about the time that two British tourists were shot and killed last year.
Samantha Huffman, the 21 year old sister of Shawn Tyson who is on trial for the murder of Brits James Kouzaris, 24, and James Cooper, 25, is charged with OBSTRUCTING JUSTICE: INJ RETALIATE AGAINST INFORMANT VICTIM WITNESS and currently held in the Sarasota county jail on $7,500 bond. No Snitchin In the Newtown Hood, Ryhain Smith Denies Knowledge of Shawn Tyson’s Murder Gun After Ryhain Scratched Off the Serial Number. Sarasota cops questioned one of Shawn Tyson’s friends, Ryhain Smith, 17, four times and then charged him with perjury and accessory after the fact, saying he lied to them.
Ryhain Smith and Joshua Bane told police they retrieved the .22 caliber revolver used in the murder of James Cooper, 25, and James Kouzaris, 24 that had been hidden at Shawn Tyson’s direction under the house of Marvin Gaines and scratched off the serial number with a screwdriver, court records show, Bane later sold it for $50.
When Ryhain Smith, DOB 5/18/1994, was quizzed by lawyers at a deposition about the gun and incriminating statements Shawn Tyson made after the shooting, Ryhain Smith recanted. He denied hearing the statements and denied knowledge of the gun, even after lawyers showed him a videotape of his statement.
