Sur 13 Gang Member and Drug Kingpin Basillio Alvardo Sentenced to 35 Years After His Arrest on Bee Ridge Rd in Sarasota Fl.

TAMPA, FL—U.S. Attorney Robert E. O’Neill announces that U.S. District Judge James S. Moody, Jr. sentenced Basillio Alvardo (44, Wachula) to 35 years in federal prison for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute; possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime; and possession of a firearm and ammunition after having been convicted of a felony offense.

 

Alvardo was found guilty on February 23, 2011, following a trial. According to court documents, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) initially arrested Alvardo on June 15, 2010, following a traffic stop on Bee Ridge Road. An officer observed Alvardo’s vehicle, a Mitsubishi Gallant, had excessive window tint. Alvardo was the driver and sole occupant of the car.

During the stop, an SCSO canine alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Deputies searched the car and found more than 200 grams of methamphetamine, a loaded .38 caliber revolver, and a digital scale. Alvardo later admitted to being a member of the Sur 13 gang (SX3). He also admitted to having fired the revolver earlier on June 15, 2010, because he thought someone might be following him and trying to steal his drugs. Subsequent investigation revealed that Alvardo was a convicted felon.

 This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Southwest Florida Violent Crimes Task Force;the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Christopher F. Murray.

 

One of the best kept secrets in Sarasota Fl is the presence of Sur 13 gang members. Sur 13 gang member and drug kingpin Basillio Alvardo was first arrested on June 15th 2010 at the corner of BEE RIDGE RD and MCINTOSH RD, Sarasota, FL.  Basillio Alvardo listed an address of 836 ALLEN DR  WAUCHULA, FL, so when arrested on June 15th, he was either coming into or going out of Sarasota via the I-75 interstate highway.

 

 

On September 17th, 2010, I posted an article, SUR-13 Gang Members Lay Claim to South Beneva Rd in Sarasota Fl As They “Tag” Fences.  This South Beneva Rd area as indicated in the article was at the corner of Beneva Rd and Bee Ridge Rd just down the street from where Basillio Alvardo was arrested on June 15th.

 

 

SUR 13 Gangs that “tag” buildings and fences in a certain parts of a city are virtually laying claim to that area, in other words rival gangs and cops ”keep out”, note the X3 with the three dots, this is the real deal.

 

On Thursday morning September 16th 2010 gang members of the latin SUR 13 “tagged” fences and the bus stop on Beneva Rd near the Bee Ridge Rd intersection in Sarasota Fl with their trade mark blue spray paint.  It appears that the owners of the sub division that owns the fence had already hired a crew to re-paint the fence by 9:00 am. The SUR 13 Gang color is blue.

 

 

SUR 13 Gang graffito, the singular of graffiti, is often the first indication that street gangs are active in your community. Graffiti is the newspaper, the billboard, the Internet of the world of street gangs and serves to mark the gang’s power and status. Graffiti marks territorial boundaries and serves, as a warning to other gangs that the area marked with unique signs and symbols is the territory or “turf” of a particular gang.

 

Sur 13 Graffiti warns intruders or trespassers from rival gangs and even policemen that they are not welcome.Sureno street gang members, SUR-13, often identify with the symbols XIII, X3, 13, and 3-dots (see fence photos at top of post with 3 dots). This refers to the 13th letter of the alphabet “M” which stands for Mexican Mafia. The gang identifies with the color blue and the words Sureno, Sur and Southerner.
